The National - High Violet

This album which has been streaming on NYtimes.com is fucking phenomenal. I've loved much of what this band has done and this album is no different, it's The National playing their music but evolving it and growing it. Its truly a brilliant album and I hardly say things like that. Songs like Sorrow, I'm Afraid Of Everyone and Lemonworld are the highlights, but all the songs are strong and stand well on their own. The tone of this record is darkly optimistic, if that makes sense, but I've always felt that way of Matt Berninger's lyrics and how they play over the music that is so fine tuned and raw at the same time.

Listen to this album.
